A relationship is a bridge to a future.
Like the Tango, it takes two (or more).

Where your bridge and theirs meet a donut is formed.
The gap is a translation, a tension, between your imagined futures.

You complete it by communication, definition, argument, compromise. Sometimes it devolves into rules and laws; matters become deals, and intentions transform into transactions. Bridges get burned.

To people, relationships are usually the most important of all things.

Heuristics
Listen a lot to words, intentions, actions. Do theirs align? Do yours? Be as honest as you can and invest in communication.

Use your empathy to see the future in their heart. Know yourself – imagine your own future full of hope and fulfilment. If the distance between them is far, can you actually make the leap? (Don’t try it, Anakin).

Keep the communication open and the fun stuff going.

There are forces bigger than the both of you.

Fools rush in.
