I believe it would be disingenuous of me not to comment on the 47th US Presidential election, so I briefly will just this once.
This evening I watched the republican candidate’s victory speech online. In the comments I kept seeing variations of the same comment popping up repeatedly: “Finally we’ll be able to afford groceries again!”
That is a touchingly earnest and heartfelt hope. The simple dream of feeding healthy food to your family again. It is so human.
It is also human to ignore information that disagrees with your strongly held views, no matter how intelligent you may be. It’s how we’re wired and I’m as guilty as anyone of seeing things my way.
But it’s better if we see things as they are.
Here is a chance to do that. If you voted republican, or would have done if you were American, write down your grocery list of hopes for the next four years. Each time one of those hopes comes true, cross it off. See if your hopes are ultimately respected.
